A giant freshwater turtle swims in Hanoi’s Hoan Kiem lake. The turtle’s health is in serious condition and requires treatment. The state has established a team of animal experts, veterinarians and scientists to capture the rare turtle and administer treatment.

We got to see the gigantic turtle a month ago today in Hanoi. We were having coffee at a cafe that overlooks Hoan Kiem when we saw a crowd gathering — then we saw him surface. It was such a memorable experience — we joined the masses of people pressing up to the shore to watch for him to rise again. I hope he will be OK.
